Hello, I’m Troy Bradley, a lifelong resident of DeLand. I have been a pastor in this community for over 25 years. I am running for DeLand City Commissioner because, like so many of you, I want to keep our great town a wonderful place to live, work and play. Most of all, I want DeLand to remain safe and protected for everyone today, tomorrow, and for the future. With your help we can do this. Please consider me for DeLand City Commission Seat 4.

Smart Growth

Making decisions about the future of DeLand requires integrity, innovation, and inclusion. Development decisions affect the things that touch our everyday lives: our homes, our health, the schools our children attend, the taxes we pay, our daily commute, our natural environment, and economic growth in our community. We must devise approaches to development that encourage a mix of building types and uses, diverse housing and transportation options, development within existing neighborhoods, and community engagement. To ensure smart growth for DeLand, I am committed to continue review our smart growth policies and ways in which annexation of certain properties can be pursued, as well as supporting the redevelopment of neglected areas of the city.

Investing in the Future of DeLand

The existing composition of investments in our youth are largely dominated by the school system. However, these investments are not enough to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Municipalities must be better partners. We must ensure that when children enter kindergarten, they are ready to learn so that they can be more likely to achieve positive academic outcomes throughout their school years and graduate from high school. Individuals who graduate from high school are more likely to be employed, earn higher wages, experience better health outcomes, and are less likely to be incarcerated. Municipalities must do more to ensure children have access to meaningful opportunities, though. Garnering public/private partnerships that expand programs and stretch well beyond the traditional set of public services provided is critical. Not only do these partnerships invest in the future of our children, but they provide a base for individuals who can be gainfully employed by these private organizations and serve as tangible evidence of the return on the investment into our children for the community.

Stewarding Your Tax Dollars

If municipal leaders do nothing else, they must be good stewards of your taxpayers’ dollars. When bad things happen in government procurement, too often, it is attributed to municipal leaders who fail to exercise appropriate oversight. Municipal leaders must have the ability to direct funding where it will do the most good, while also being efficient. We must promote fiscal stewardship by improving the delivery of services to the City’s customers – the residents of DeLand. We must build accountability and transparency into everything we do to ensure good stewardship and prove that government still works and can deliver for our people.
